They passed it up as warranty work (otherwise it would have been about an hour of work) so I didn't pay anything for that update, but I obviously had to renew my Audi Connect subscription to renew the licenses for the various services (Google Earth, traffic.). Google Earth has been back since and it's working fine. I mentioned it to my dealer when the car was brought in for inspection, without much hope that a solution existed as I read many times on the forums that many people were told by their dealers that no solution from Audi has been provided, and to my surprise they found a software update and applied it to my car. I don't know if this applies only to Virtual Cockpit (MIB 1/MIB 2) cars (so B9 A4, C8 A6, FY Q5) or even to cars with the MMI 3G+ (B8.5 A4, Q5 8R.), but anyway, in the last days of 2020 on my MIB 2-equipped 2018 S4, Google Earth stopped loading. I was very disappointed when I noticed that the Google Earth satellite images wouldn't load anymore in my 2018 Audi S4's Virtual Cockpit and center display despite the system being set to do so.Īt first I thought that the Connect subscription had expired, but that wasn't the case, so a quick Google search revealed that a change in Google's data delivery protocols would cut off Google Earth regardless of the Audi Connect subscription for all cars before and included 2018.
